Vanpower FAQS

Fashionable woman checking her watch next to the Vanpower City Vantures Ebike in the street.

Can I ride in the rain or snow?

For rainy weather, Vanpowers e-bike can fully cope with it. The motor and the display are both IP65 dust/waterproof, which means that you can directly spray it with your average hose (a high-pressure one may lead to mechanical damage) without worrying about water damage. Of course, you should be careful about seawater because it is relatively corrosive. If your e-bike touches seawater, remember to rinse it with fresh water afterward gently. In conclusion, on a rainy day, the only precaution you might want to consider is preventing road surface water from exceeding the height of the motor shaft.

The first thing to consider for snowy and extremely cold weather is the e-bike motor and battery. The e-bike’s motor and the battery can withstand temperatures above -20°C. But the battery capacity will be about 70% left when the temperature is -20℃ – 0℃. At the same time, our e-bike can drive on wet ground and snow.
Since City Vanture and Commuter are road e-bikes, for your safety, they are not recommended to ride when the road is icy or heavy snowfall.

What is the warranty on my e-Bike?

We guarantee each new E-Bike's frame and original components against defects in craft and materials for one year from the day of delivery of your bike. It does not include parts subject to normal wear and tear (Brake Pads, Spokes, Tubes, Flywheel Pinion, Saddle, Kickstand.) and improper assembly or follow-up maintenance. See the complete warranty details here.  https://vanpowers.bike/page/warranty

Is it possible to reprogram the speed limit?

For your and your e-bike's safety and the laws in your location, please understand that we cannot provide "cheat codes" to our dear supporters.

Is the seat adjustable/how do I adjust it?

Of course the seat height can be adjusted. You can adjust the height after loosening the screw of the seat tube, but please note that for your safety, you must be sure to tighten the screw after adjusting the height.

Will the load affect the brakes?

If the weight on the bike is heavier, it will make the braking distance longer, and at the same time, the cruising range will be shortened accordingly.

Is it possible to install a water bottle holder and where?

We can install water bottle cages, but we prohibit perforated bottle cages for the sake of construction and stability. You can use a strap-on bottle cage and mount it where the down tube is. I hope this answers your question.

Battery charging problem/how to charge Vanpowers e-bike

Normally, you just need to connect the charger to the charging port on the right side of the head tube of the e-bike. When charging, it is best to connect the charger to the vehicle first, and then plug the charger into the power socket. When fully charged, first unplug the power plug, and then unplug the body plug.

Ref FAQS

Young man standing with a dark Essential Boost bike, in a modern urban courtyard.

Where are REFs made?

The framework of our REFs are 100% Made in France. Thanks to Plug&Go®innovation, we are able to offer a locally manufactured bicycle frame at a competitive price, it's never been seen before! As for our bikes, they are assembled by hand in our Lyon workshop.

Can I modulate my bike on my own?

Modulating a REF requires special tools and a particular technique. You must contact one of our partner stores for this.

How is the delivery going?

There are two possibilities :

  • Directly to your home if you have chosen to buy your bike on our website. The bike will arrive 95% assembled and we will attach ultra-simplified assembly instructions to complete the assembly. Please note that assembly operations do not require mechanical knowledge.
  • Directly in the store where you purchased your REF. A mechanic will accompany you to get your bike on the road and will give you some tips for use and maintenance.

How do I charge my bike?

o charge your bike, you must remove the protective cap from the charging connector located at the rear wheel. Then, simply plug in the Zehus charger and connect it to a power outlet (110≈240V).

Charging time is approximately 3 hours for a full charge. While the Zehus motor is charging, the charger LED is red. When the ZEHUS motor is fully charged, the LED turns green.

How much do your bikes weigh?

The weight depends on the model you have chosen.Mechanical bikes weigh around 14 kg and bikes with electric assistance, 16 kg.

Tell me more about your mission.

We are committed to offering you a bike that makes sense for you and the planet by making sustainable bikes accessible.
First of all, it is lean manufacturing, in a short circuit. Then, to leave the choice to the user to own a bike adapted to their tastes and their use today and tomorrow. Finally, it's having a bike that lasts over time.

Where do REF parts come from?

The frame is entirely French made (Auvergne Rhône Alpes and Seine et Marne). The wheels come from the Loire. The Zehus® engine comes from Milan, Italy. For the rest of the parts, it is a mix of European Union and non-European Union.

In the medium term our ambition is to offer a bike 100% Made in France!

What is the purpose of the modularity of our bikes?

OurPlug&Go®system allows you to adapt your bike according to changes in your life (change of workplace, moving, arrival of children, grandchildren and more or less sporting activities).

When will the modulation packs be available?

Our team is working hard to release robust modules. You will be informed as soon as the packs are available thanks to our newsletter!

Are REFs equipped with suspensions?

Our engineers chose not to use suspension. When practicing in the city, this is not necessarily necessary. The comfort of our bikes lies in the absence of a seatstay. This provides lateral rigidity and vertical flexibility.

What tire sizes are compatible?

Our wheels are 28 inches with a diameter of 700 mm.

What are the advantages of the belt?

On our bikes, we opted for a belt instead of the traditional chain. His advantages :

  • An enormous lifespan: you will travel more than 20,000 km with it;
  • Limited maintenance: just a quick wipe to remove dirt and other impurities;
  • The absence of grease stains on your pants;
  • The pleasure of silence when you pedal.

If you ever break it, there is a supplier guarantee. And if you really need to change it, it costs around €70.

Can I install a child seat?

es, most child seats are compatible. Our luggage racks are designed to accommodate a child seat and can support a weight of 27 kg.

What are your tips for choosing the right frame?

We offer 2 types of frame: open or closed.

The open frame provides more comfort. You have to make less effort to climb over the bike. For example, it can be useful if you are installing a baby seat.

The closed frame is intended for a generally more sporty practice.

The best thing is to try your bike so that you can find the best comfort between the 3 points of contact: pedals, saddle and handlebars.

Are the REFs suitable for my size?

Personalization is at the heart of our concept. We currently offer 2 frame sizes.By choosing your size, we will equip your bike with a seat post and a stem adapted to your body shape so that the riding of your REF fits you like a glove!

Do you advise me to take out bicycle insurance?

Insurance is not compulsory for bicycles with electric assistance whose power does not exceed 250 w and whose assistance is not activated beyond 25km/h.

If you have an accident and you are responsible for damage, you must repair it. Civil liability is there for that. It is included in comprehensive home insurance.

Compensation for the theft of a bicycle or damage is low in traditional insurance contracts.

To guarantee this risk, you can take out a specific contract, such as a comprehensive bicycle insurance policy , which notably guarantees theft and damage to your bicycle following an accident or fall.

If the frame is removable, can it be easily stolen?

Don't worry, it is impossible to disassemble our bike without specific tools.

Iruka FAQS

A man riding the white Iruka C bike in the city.

Due to the structure of iruka, what should I pay special attention for safely?

The following 2 points are the most important and unique that other bicycles do not have. For more details, please referiruka owners Manual.

Do not carry the bicycle by the rear wheel when the bicycle is folded. Doing so may lead to injury due to the rear wheel turning and trapping your fingers between the frame and the rear wheel. (iruka is sold with a wheel cover to prevent fingers going through the rear wheel)

Check that the stem and the handle post is inserted to the very bottom and that the cam levers are closed steadily.

Has the frame strength passed official safety tests?

iruka’s frame strength passed the listed official safety tests conducted by Taiwan Cycling and Health Tech Industry R&D Center.

  • Frame fatigue test with a vertical force (EN4.8.6)
  • Impact test (Falling mass) (EN4.8.2)
  • Impact test (Falling frame) (EN4.8.3)

What about the product warranty?

One year from date of purchase. Please have the retailer sign the warranty document included in the product package. Bring the document with you when you visit the retailer to receive services specified in the warranty.

Can I change the seat post?

Yes, if the post is 27.2 mm in diameter. However, if the length exceeds 380mm, the seat tip may touch the ground when folding.

Can I customize the drivetrain parts?

iruka may be customized if each part matches the size of the original parts. However, as all parts of iruka are designed to fold with precision, we don’t recommend customizing the drivetrain system or control system. If you do consider customizing your iruka, please seek advice from your retail shop’s staff. Below are some possible issues that may arise during customization.

Crank set
A chain ring with a diameter over 250mm or with a cover on the back may interfere with the rear swing arm when folding. Also, when the crank set is changed and the Q factor (the distance between the outside of one crank arm to the outside of the other crank arm) is decreased, the tip of the crank may interfere with the caster when riding, or with the rear end when folding. In general, a front derailleur cannot be installed because there is not enough space.

Rear hub, gear box
If you decide to replace the original internal gear with an external sprocket hub, extra steps must be taken – such as removing the inner sprocket – to avoid the chain interfering with the rear fork when using inner gear. You may attach a derailleur on the rear drop end, however, a standard derailleur may cause the chain to slack or fall off when folding.

Bottom bracket
The original bottom bracket is specially designed to use a long axle. If it is changed to a shorter bottom bracket and the Q-factor (the distance between the outside of one crank arm to the outside of the other crank arm) is decreased, the tip of the crank may interfere with the caster when riding, and with the rear end when folding.

Handle bar
A handle with different size and shape might interfere with the main body and/or with the ground surface when folding. Also, when the brake lever and shifter are repositioned significantly different from the original design, it may entangle the wires during folding and unfolding, thereby affecting the bike’s breaking ability.

Brake
A V brake or caliper brake cannot be installed because there is no base for a caliper. A rear disk brake rotor with larger diameter will interfere with the rear end.

What is the cylinder-shaped part at the joint of the main frame and rear swing arm?

Elastomer suspension. It absorbs vibrations the bicycle picks up while on the road.

Can I mount different sized tires from the original (18 in x 1.25 and 1.50)?

Tires that exceed 460mm in diameter or 40mm in width may interfere with the main frame when folding. Please check the compatibility in advance when using any tire that exceeds 18 in x 1.50.

Can I change the seat post?

es, if the post is 27.2 mm in diameter. However, if the length exceeds 380mm, the seat tip may touch the ground when folding.

Does iruka come with a mudguard?

It is not in the standard option, however, there are holes for the M5 bolt on the backside of front fork crown.

Does iruka come with a kickstand?

It is not in the standard option, however, you can install a kickstand on the left side of the rear end with two M6 bolts (center distance 22mm).

Is iruka patented?

Trademark, design, and patent rights for iruka’s frame structure have already been registered.

Will there be regular model changes?

No, we don’t have plans to make annual regular model/specification changes like other bicycle manufactures.

The helmet and gloves are easily the most important accessories to consider when choosing an electric bike. They are both safety equipment that can save your life and prevent injuries if you fall off your bike. A helmet will protect your head in case of a crash, while gloves will protect your hands from getting cut or bruised by the handlebars.

Phone Mount

A mobile phone holder is indispensable for a happy ride on an electric bike, especially for riders who ride dirt roads, mountain bikes and gravel bikes to deal with some complex terrain.

Phone Mount securely attaches to the handlebars of the ebike and provides a secure location to mount your phone, allowing you hands-free use.

Bike Cover

Bike Bags

Bike Bags are a smart accessory to an electric mountain bike setup. These particular pannier bags hang on either side of the rear wheel of your electric bike and are fully waterproof and made of marine-grade, waterproof materials which make them perfect for packing in extra gear for a hunt or a weekend camping trip. Leopard Lync FAQS

A picture of a bike being stolen from the rack with only one wheel left indicating the risk of not having the Leopard Lync security system.

How long does the battery last?

Under normal riding conditions the battery will last up to 4 weeks. The device will let you know when the battery needs charging and you simply plug it in either to mains or a powerbank for 3 hours to fully charge.

What types of bikes can the Lync be fitted too?

Any and all types of bicycle – from traditional to electric, road to gravel. If your bike has room for a bottle cage then you will be able to fit the Leopard Lync.

Do I need a sim card?

No – the device comes with its own build in eSim allowing you to use the device across the UK and Europe

Where will it fit on my bike?

The best placement for the Lync is under where you would normally fit your bottle cage, and attach with  security hex bolts – which are included. You can then attach your own bottle cage as normal over the Lync.

What are the dimensions and weight of the Lync?

The Lync measures 166mm in length, 32mm in width and 23mm thickness. The compete hardware module weights just 97g.

Are we able to track these anytime, anyplace, however far away?

Yes – Unlike a tracker like tile or airtag where you need to rely on other people’s devices and be close to it to find whatever you’re tracking… the Lync was created with connectivity as a key feature and we use both GPS and 4G/2G cellular networks via an integrated eSim so you can track your device (bike) from anywhere in the world where you get signal.

In what countries can the Lync be used?

The Lync supports 4G network in the UK and across Europe as well, without extra roaming charge. All mapping (real-time GPS and find my bike) will work anywhere in the EU and UK. The only exception at the moment is the data we use for the bike theft report. Currently this is provided by UK police and so bike theft map feature is available in the UK for now. However we activity working with the EU authorities to collect more theft data and will be extending the theft mapping to cover the EU very soon. This will be done by way of a remote firmware update to the device and we will notify all users when this is ready to do.
